Biologix Technology

Biologix Technology

The base technology behind BioLogix (Lyophilized Pseudomonas) was initially developed in 1997. In 2018 Delta Remediaiton revamped the base technology and created the BioLogix technology (product) and associated remediaiton processes. BioLogix was created to affordably and sustainably complete soil remediation handling soil and water contaminated with hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents.

The microbial products contain highly purified, naturally occurring bacteria from the Pseudomonas genus. The specified strains chosen have the ability to aggressively break down petroleum hydrocarbons and toxic organics to carbon dioxide and water. In certain soil remediation applications dynamic surfactants are added to aid in accessibility of the microbes to difficult pockets of contamination in tight clays often found in Western Canada.

The development of this technology allows proactive organizations to completely eliminate environmental and financial liabilities associated with hydrocarbon contamination.

With in-house biologists and strategic relationships with third party environmental consulting groups, Delta Remediation has the capacity to rapidly address compatibility of bioremediation in various complex environments. The Delta team can also quickly provide estimates and remedial action plans utilizing various advanced application processes both in situ and ex situ.

Biology

DELTA Remediation’s BioLogix Solution for accelerated Landfarm Remediation is a consortium of naturally-occurring microbes selected for their safety, and effectiveness in removing a wide range of organic chemicals from the environment. BioLogix contains strains from the Pseudomonas genus, which are known to have the most aggressive metabolic rate, and the capability of degrading the full suite of constituents found in petroleum hydrocarbons.  The microorganisms are not genetically modified and are safe for human health and the environment.  The rapid growth and stability of Pseudomonas reduce manufacturing and application costs. Overall, BioLogix accelerates natural petroleum removal and reduces project risks and costs through the process of bioaugmentation.

BioLogix provides high microbial populations as a result of laboratory manufacturing and quality control methods. BioLogix is applied directly onto the petroleum spill and surrounding surfaces, through both in-situ and ex-situ processes. With the availability of atmospheric oxygen or amendments, BioLogix can degrade petroleum at a rate of 15 mg/L/hr.  The degradation rate will be slower at low temperatures, but the microbial population will tolerate a wide range of temperature, pH, and salinity.  The microbes will not harm the native flora or fauna, including the native microbial community.  While the contamination source may have hurt the natural ecological community, once BioLogix has removed the toxic organics, the ecological community will quickly return to its natural state. BioLogix is NCP and DSL approved and can be shipped worldwide as it is a non-controlled substance.

Chemistry

In certain applications, DELTA pairs BioLogix with a specially formulated bio-friendly surfactant that is completely biodegradable and safe for plants animals and people. The surfactant serves many valuable purposes in field applications. The first purpose of surfactants in our process is to help break down the soils during an ex-situ application. The smaller the material is, the better surface contact the microbes have, the faster bioremediation will take place. The second is that a surfactant will act as a wetting agent to allow the mixing of the water based microbial solution into an oily soil that would otherwise repel water-based solutions. The third and equally important aspect of the surfactant is that it allows the Delta’s BioLogix microbes to be delivered into difficult pockets of contamination found in tight clay materials.
